BC Sporting Clays Provincials and Bugaboo Blast 2024, Radium
Hello shooters
Its not that long until the Labor Day weekend which means Bugaboo Blast at Radium is almost upon us. This year, we will again be hosting the BC Sporting Clays Provincials which will run concurrently with Bugaboo Blast.
Here is a brief snap shot of what is planned. Further information and registration forms will be sent to interested shooters in the not too distant future.
Thu Aug 29
Practice day. The Radium Field Sporting [RFS] course will be open with 6 “parcours”, 120 targets total with an option to shoot only a designated 60 targets in 3 parcours if you so choose. European rotation, meaning shoot at the time of your choosing provided there is an open station to start on. Depending on the number of shooters for RFS, 5-stand will likely be open later in the day as well. No lunch, no prizes. RFS has 1-shot singles, 2-shot singles, pairs and X-birds in the repertoire all of which makes for interesting presentations and a fun event.
Here is an example of the format planned for Parcour 57.
Parcour 57, 2 shooting stations, 25 targets total, 7 machines. Two pairs and 2 single rabbit targets from each shooting station, then two pairs and 2 single aerial targets from each shooting station. One X-bird for Parcour 57.
Fri, Aug 30
Team event, Radium Field Sporting, 6 parcours, 120 targets. Probably sandwich bar at lunch, no dinner. Teams consist of 4 to 6 shooters with only the top four scores counting. Handicaps will apply to even the competition. Using only the top 4 scores for the teams, the RFS format and the application of handicaps makes the event suitable for all levels of shooters. We will only the westerly and southerly portions of the range to make it easier to walk the course.
Cash prize for winning team. Noon start to allow time for course re-configuration after the shoot. Limited to 6 squads, 36 shooters. Five stand could possibly be open after the team event is done.
Sat, Aug 31 - Sun, Sep 1
Concurrent BC Provincials [BCP] which will be registered and Bugaboo Blast [BB] which is not registered. Sporting clays format, 100 targets in AM., 120 in PM, 120 targets Sunday AM. Hello,
Thank you for your interest in the NSCA Instructor Program.
The NSCA offers three levels of Instructor Certification. The Level I course is designed to equip new instructors with the skills to safely and competently introduce new or novice shooters to the sporting clays games. The Level 2 program is offered to Level I instructors who have mastered their craft and prepares them to be able to work with shooters with more advances skill sets - shooters up to A class generally. The Level 3 program is for the coaches who have risen to the top of the profession, and are ready to work with AA and Master class shooters and help then add that final polish to their technique.
The criteria for taking the course are:
The Shooting Proficiency Test is essentially hitting 60% of the targets from Stations 1, 4, and 7 on a skeet field. If you have not taken lessons, we can arrange for that immediately before the course begins.
The course is three days in duration, and typically runs Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. In broad strokes, the agenda is roughly:
Friday
AM - Introductions; Classroom portion of the class
PM - Shooting proficiency test; instructors working with each other to try their new skills. The instructor candidates are paired up and one is the student while the other does a safety briefing, or gun fitting. Then the roles are reversed
End of the day - write the referee Exam - a collaborative effort
Saturday
AM - More working together with the course candidates and the Certifying Instructor, clarifying what an instructor does before working with students
PM - working with volunteer students
End of the day - write the course exam
Sunday
AM - Working with volunteer students
PM - Working with volunteer students
End of the day - Graduation
The cost for the course is $600 US, payable to the NSCA in San Antonio, as well as your costs for ammunition and targets.
If you are interested and would like to learn more, visit the NSCA website at https://nsca.nssa-nsca.org/become-an-instructor/or feel free to write or call me at any time.
The NSCA requires that a class has a minimum of six individuals registered at least one month before the course begins for the course to proceed. I have a course set for April at Silver Willow Sporting Clays near Calgary, but I would be happy to come out to the Island to deliver a course there if there is sufficient interest.
