Bugaboo Blast 2023, Radium
Hello Shooters
Less than 3 months to Bugaboo Blast, time to start planning your visit to Radium as some shooters are already reserving their spot.
Here is some preliminary information to advise you of what we are planning for your entertainment over the Labor Day weekend.
Thursday, Aug 31 will be a practice day. Five stand will be open and you will also be able to shoot some of the stations which will be used during Sunday’s team event. No meals, no prizes. You will pay for the number of shots you take;- ie there is no preset amount for Thu.
Friday, Sep 1 will be side games, including 5-stand, Poker Shoot, Make-A-Break, perhaps timed reload, etc. Cash prizes will be awarded. Not yet decided, but there will likely be hors d’oeuvres after shooting on Friday, no dinner however. Lunch provided.
Saturday will feature 100 targets in the morning and 120 in the afternoon. Format will be conventional sporting clays with perhaps some stations using Super Sporting format. You have the option of registering or not registering your scores with CNSCA. An extra fee of $15 will apply to register your scores. All shooters will participate in the prize pool which will be awarded by either Lewis Class or earned lottery, still to be decided. Registered shooters will also be awarded medals in the normal CNSCA format. Lunch provided, optional dinner at extra cost. Kootenay Kash in play.
Sunday will be a team event similar to what we did in 2021. Teams can be 4, 5 or 6 shooters with only the top 4 scores of the scores counting for prizes. It is preferred that shooters arrange their own teams but not essential. Handicaps will apply to level the playing field. There will be 4-bird flurry stations (adjusted to allow use of O/U shotguns), timed reload, random poison bird, a “Golf” station, and a few other formats, all designed to encourage your team to shoot according to your ability. Cash prizes awarded to individual HOA plus the winning team(s). Lunch provided. Kootenay Kash in play.
If you have other suggestions to make an interesting weekend, let us know.
Target fees have not yet been established. Bear in mind that the cost of clays has increased substantially since last year and we try to have enough money in the prize pool to make prize awards meaningful.
In order to assist us with planning, we would appreciate being advised by return email if you plan to attend, and if so, which days.
As always bear in mind, there is some risk that the event may have to be cancelled due to wild fires, extreme weather, pandemics, etc.

Hello,
Thank you for your interest in the NSCA Instructor Program.
The NSCA offers three levels of Instructor Certification. The Level I course is designed to equip new instructors with the skills to safely and competently introduce new or novice shooters to the sporting clays games. The Level 2 program is offered to Level I instructors who have mastered their craft and prepares them to be able to work with shooters with more advances skill sets - shooters up to A class generally. The Level 3 program is for the coaches who have risen to the top of the profession, and are ready to work with AA and Master class shooters and help then add that final polish to their technique.
The criteria for taking the course are:
The Shooting Proficiency Test is essentially hitting 60% of the targets from Stations 1, 4, and 7 on a skeet field. If you have not taken lessons, we can arrange for that immediately before the course begins.
The course is three days in duration, and typically runs Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. In broad strokes, the agenda is roughly:
Friday
AM - Introductions; Classroom portion of the class
PM - Shooting proficiency test; instructors working with each other to try their new skills. The instructor candidates are paired up and one is the student while the other does a safety briefing, or gun fitting. Then the roles are reversed
End of the day - write the referee Exam - a collaborative effort
Saturday
AM - More working together with the course candidates and the Certifying Instructor, clarifying what an instructor does before working with students
PM - working with volunteer students
End of the day - write the course exam
Sunday
AM - Working with volunteer students
PM - Working with volunteer students
End of the day - Graduation
The cost for the course is $600 US, payable to the NSCA in San Antonio, as well as your costs for ammunition and targets.
If you are interested and would like to learn more, visit the NSCA website at https://nsca.nssa-nsca.org/become-an-instructor/or feel free to write or call me at any time.
The NSCA requires that a class has a minimum of six individuals registered at least one month before the course begins for the course to proceed. I have a course set for April at Silver Willow Sporting Clays near Calgary, but I would be happy to come out to the Island to deliver a course there if there is sufficient interest.
